Day 3: Thu 20 Apr 23 - Monto to Home, 300km; total towed: 602km; total driven: 602km
13 degC at Monto to 28 degC at home, another gloriously sunny day in QLD
We had a discussion this morning, while still in bed, and decided that we would head home today, not because we were not enjoying being out in the van, simply because we have been to most of these places in 2020 and there was nothing new to see. We were also keeping in mind we head off on our France cycle trip in five weeks time, and need to get the house sorted for the Wendy's folks who are coming up to escape the Canberra winter, and to have a Gwebi (Rhodesian Agricultural College) reunion (60years we think). R&T will arrive a few weeks after we leave and stay for a few weeks after the reunions attendees leave. So, we need to ensure the house is up to scratch, and if we don't start now, we will be running around like headless chooks in the days before we depart for France. The other reason is that the Monto Rodeo and Show starts today and goes for the whole weekend, and we didn't really want to be kept awake all night by the noise and potential yahoos at the pub that is spitting distance from the RV park.
We left the very relaxing confines of the Monto Self Contained Stopover a tad before 7:30am with our first stop being at the Three Moons painted silo and then again at Ceratodus Rest Area for a pit stop. Mornos was had at Ban Ban Springs Rest Area. We stopped again at Childers for fuel, and arrived home just after midday.
The van fridge, freezer and pantry was unpacked before having lunch and a rest. The rest of the van was unpacked, washed and put to bed by 3pm.
This was a very short trip in the van, however, we confirmed we have not lost the love of travelling, we just have to find new places to see. Apart from the grease cap falling off, both the Cruiser and the van performed very well. Our off-grid system is still working and we were able to to all the things we would normally do with 240v. We are looking forward to setting off again late in the year for our biennial Beswick Christmas, in Canberra this year.
A foggy start to the day
